Short answer: A simple tooth extraction at Smileplus Dental costs $30, and same-day appointments are available at our Hougang and Redhill branches. If you have a CHAS, Pioneer Generation or Merdeka Generation card, the government subsidy is deducted from your bill, so you may pay less. A simple extraction is paid in cash and isn't MediSave-claimable, but wisdom tooth surgery ($1,500) is fully MediSave-claimable. Our team confirms your price before anything starts.
What is a simple tooth extraction?
A simple extraction removes a tooth that has fully come through the gum and can be lifted out in one piece. The area is numbed first, the dentist loosens the tooth gently, and it's removed without cutting the gum or bone. It's usually done in a single short visit.
A tooth may need to come out because it's badly broken, has decay too deep to repair, is loose from gum disease, or is crowding other teeth. The dentist will check whether a filling, crown or root canal could save it first, and explain the options.
A surgical extraction is different. It's used when a tooth is stuck under the gum or bone (often a wisdom tooth), or has broken off at the gum line, and it involves a small cut and sometimes stitches.
How much does a tooth extraction cost at Smileplus Dental?
| Treatment | Price | How it's paid |
|---|---|---|
| Simple tooth extraction | $30 | Cash; CHAS, Pioneer or Merdeka subsidies may reduce it |
| Simple wisdom tooth extraction | $150 | Cash |
| Wisdom tooth surgery | $1,500 | Fully MediSave-claimable |
Prices are nett. Hougang branch prices are subject to GST. Your final price is confirmed after the dentist examines you and, where needed, takes an X-ray.
What's included in the price?
For a simple extraction, the price covers:
- Numbing the area with local anaesthetic
- Removing the tooth
- Gauze and written aftercare instructions
If the dentist needs an X-ray to check the roots, or the tooth turns out to need a surgical approach, our team tells you the cost before going ahead. You won't be asked to pay for anything you didn't agree to.
Can I use CHAS, Pioneer or Merdeka Generation for an extraction?
Yes. Extractions are one of the treatments these schemes help with. Here's how it works at Smileplus Dental:
- The subsidy is funded by the government (MOH). We deduct it from your bill and claim it back, so you don't need to submit anything yourself.
- It doesn't come out of your MediSave. Your CPF savings stay untouched.
- It reduces the cost rather than making it free. How much you save depends on your card and tier, and our team tells you the amount before treatment.
Just bring your NRIC and your CHAS card if you have one. For a full guide to the schemes, see Dental subsidies for seniors in Singapore.
Can I use MediSave for a tooth extraction?
Not for a simple extraction. MediSave is meant for surgical procedures, and a simple extraction isn't classed as surgery, so it's paid in cash.
Wisdom tooth surgery is different. At Smileplus Dental it costs $1,500 and is fully MediSave-claimable for eligible Singapore Citizens and Permanent Residents, so there's no cash portion for the surgery itself. You can read more in our wisdom tooth surgery cost guide or on our Wisdom Tooth page.

Should I go to a polyclinic or a private clinic for an extraction?
Both are options, and it comes down to timing and convenience:
| Polyclinic | Smileplus Dental | |
|---|---|---|
| Waiting time | Usually a wait for an appointment | Same-day appointments available |
| Treatments per visit | One treatment per visit | Several treatments can be planned in one visit |
| Simple extraction cost | Subsidised rates | $30, with CHAS, PG or MG subsidies deducted |
If a tooth is bothering you and you'd like it seen to soon, or you'd like to sort out a filling or scaling in the same trip, a private clinic can save you return visits.
What happens during and after an extraction?
- Check-up: the dentist looks at the tooth, and takes an X-ray if needed.
- Numbing: local anaesthetic is applied so the area goes numb.
- Removal: the tooth is gently loosened and taken out.
- Aftercare: you bite on gauze for a while, and our team goes through what to do at home.
Common aftercare advice includes avoiding rinsing hard, smoking or drinking through a straw for the first day, and choosing soft food on the other side of your mouth. Your dentist gives you instructions for your own situation, and you can WhatsApp your branch if you have questions afterwards.
What can replace a missing tooth after an extraction?
You don't have to replace every tooth, but a gap can sometimes let nearby teeth drift. Options at Smileplus Dental include:
- Dental implant with crown: $2,600, made up of MediSave $1,950 and Cash $650. See our Dental Implants page.
- Dentures: $250 simple or $350 complex, in cash, with subsidies possibly lowering that.
- Implant-supported dentures for several missing teeth: $750 cash for the denture plus about $6,000 from MediSave for the implants.
The dentist can talk you through what suits you at the same visit.
