What is a dental implant?

A dental implant is a small titanium post placed in the jawbone to replace the root of a missing tooth. Once the bone has healed around it, a crown is attached on top so the tooth looks and works like a natural one.

Implants are one option for replacing a missing or extracted tooth. Other options include bridges and dentures. Your dentist can explain which options suit your situation after an examination.

  • Claimable from MediSave: $1,950

  • Cash payable: $650

  • Consultation, X-rays, medication, follow-ups: Included

Prices are nett. From 1 March 2025, GST applies at our Hougang branch. Your final quote is confirmed after a consultation and X-ray, as some cases need extra procedures such as bone grafting.

What's included in the price?

  • Implant surgery (placement of the titanium implant)

  • All X-rays needed for planning and review

  • Medication after surgery (painkillers and antibiotics)

  • A porcelain-fused-to-metal (PFM) crown

  • Post-operative follow-up visits

Not included unless discussed: bone grafting, extractions done on a separate visit, and upgraded crown materials. Our team will tell you about any extra costs before treatment starts.

Can I use MediSave for a dental implant?

Yes. The surgical part of dental implant treatment is a MediSave-claimable procedure for Singapore Citizens and Permanent Residents. At Smileplus Dental, $1,950 of the $2,600 total is claimable, so the cash portion is $650.

MediSave cannot be used for the crown portion of the treatment, so that part is paid in cash. This is why most clinics in Singapore quote implant prices as "MediSave + cash".

How does a MediSave claim for an implant work?

  1. Consultation and X-ray. The dentist checks whether an implant is suitable and confirms the treatment plan and cost.

  2. Consent form. You sign a MediSave authorisation form at the clinic. You can use your own MediSave account or that of an immediate family member (for example a spouse, parent or child), subject to CPF rules.

  3. Clinic submits the claim. Our team submits the claim to CPF on your behalf. You do not need to file anything yourself.

  4. Pay the cash balance. You pay the $650 cash portion at the clinic.

MediSave withdrawals are subject to the limits set by the Ministry of Health and to the balance in the account used. Our team can check this with you before treatment.

How long does the implant procedure take?

The implant surgery itself usually takes about 20–40 minutes. Most patients return to their normal routine within 1–2 days. In suitable cases, the implant can be placed on the same day as the tooth extraction. This can help preserve the shape of the gum and bone.

After surgery, the implant is left to heal with the bone, usually for a few months, before the crown is fitted. Follow-up visits during this period are included in the price.

Who is suitable for a dental implant?

Many adults with a missing tooth can be considered for an implant. Suitability depends on bone thickness, gum health and general medical conditions. Conditions such as poorly controlled diabetes or severe osteoporosis may affect whether an implant is recommended.

The dentist assesses this at the consultation using an examination and X-rays. If an implant is not suitable, alternatives such as a bridge or denture can be discussed.

How does implant pricing compare across Singapore?

Implant prices in Singapore vary depending on the clinic, the implant system used, the crown material and whether extra procedures are needed. Public institutions and private clinics price differently, and some quotes do not include the crown, X-rays or follow-ups.

When comparing quotes, check:

  • Whether the crown is included

  • Whether X-rays, medication and follow-ups are included

  • How much is MediSave-claimable and how much is cash

  • Whether GST is included
